David Amos-Reeves has spent the last 5 years engaging with leadership theory and reflecting on his own practice as a leader. One of the most profound things he learnt is how much the choices you make as a leader can affect the lives of others.
In this episode, he will reflect on some of our worst experiences on a team and consider this in the context of what makes a team dysfunctional. He’ll then zoom in on Psychological Safety, what it is, and why it’s important.
Finally, he will share some insight from his own research into Psychological safety that explains how leader behaviours are so critical in enabling a safe, inclusive and high performing workplace
Key points from this episode:
- An opportunity to reflect on your own experiences of leadership
- An understanding of psychological safety and why it should be the foundation of any leadership

A History of Fundraising’ with SOFII
Friday Jun 30, 2023

"Those who don't learn from the past are doomed to repeat it”
Fundraising has a history full of innovation and stagnation, inspiration and scandal. But as fundraisers we know relatively little about our own history.
If you ask a fundraiser about what has come before, you might hear answers like “we tried that once in 1983, and it didn’t work” or “we have been doing it since 1983, and it works, so don’t change it.” But if you look more closely, you can find examples of “innovations” that appear to have been introduced in the 80s or 90s that were actually pioneered in the 1880s or 1790s. What other gems lurking in the cupboards of our past have we yet to discover?
In this episode, we’ll take a look at fundraising’s history to explore questions that can help guide our future.
- What can and should we be learning about our own history?
- How does understanding our history help us fundraise better today?
- If we don’t learn, are we doomed to make the mistakes of the past?
- How does fundraising perpetuate the problems of our sector and what can we do to challenge it?
Speakers: Marina Jones, Asma Hussain, Rhodri Davies, Giovanna Bonora, Meredith Niles & Mark Philips

It's oft-said that it can be lonely at the top. And when you're working most of your time at home, leading through a screen, that sense of isolation can be even greater. This session explores Joe's experiences in senior leadership over the past 12 years, reflecting on the importance of self-care, safe spaces, networks and peer groups - how leading with courage and vulnerability reveals loneliness at the top to be a choice not an inevitability
Key learnings from this episode:
- Courage starts with vulnerability
- You can't pour from an empty cup
- You are never alone

Regardless of your gender, patriarchy affects how you exist in the workplace, how you move through the weird and wonderful world of charity, and definitely how you lead. As advisors who work with leaders of charities, foundations and businesses from the UK and abroad, and leaders who are fresh off an 18 month leadership transition (during a pandemic), Emily and Rachel have a lot of experience when it comes to applying feminist values and frameworks to the complex world of leadership. This session will bring these concepts to life with honesty, humour, and optimism. Come along to learn how you can be a feminist leader.
Key learning from this episode:
- The ways feminism can (and should) show up in leadership for people of all genders.
- The benefits of applying feminist thinking to organisational and leadership challenges.

Just Follow the Bloody Guidelines, OK?
Monday Jun 05, 2023
Monday Jun 05, 2023
Over the last six years, Bloody Good Period has grown from a Facebook post to a charity working with over 100 organisations around the country, providing vital menstrual supplies to asylum seekers, refugees and anyone who cannot afford them. Establishing a bold, recognisable and unapologetically direct tone of voice has allowed Bloody Good Period to carve out a unique space in the charity sector, and build a loyal following of supporters and ambassadors. It is, without a doubt one of the few charities that has not just supporters, but fans.
Tom Cornfoot, Creative Director and founder of A Studio of Our Own — Bloody Good Period’s creative agency — and Gabby Jahanshahi-Edlin, founder of Bloody Good Period, will be explaining the importance of tone, language and attitude as the foundation for brand personality. They’ll also be exploring how Bloody Good Period’s unique and individual voice was developed, and how it has managed to remain consistent and relevant across multiple platforms, through a variety of campaigns, even as the focus of the charity has shifted.
Key learnings from this episode:
We'll be discussing ways to give your charity brand a personality and an attitude, and how staying true to that helps to attract people to your tribe.
